San Luis Obispo Art Center
John will have twenty watercolor paintings on display at the SLO Art Center's First Gallery during the month of December. Most will be framed but there will also be paintings just matted.
"Although his subject matter is chiefly local scenery, he gives his imagination free reign to conjure up cityscapes and market scenes pulled from other times and places in his life. Mr. Barnard’s work is characterized by its energy and a boundless variety in style and approach. Watercolor West XLI
John was juried into the Watercolor West XLI Annual Juried Exhibition at the Riverside Museum of Art, California, with his painting "Piedras Blancas." The painting won a cash prize.

"Moonstone" wins Maker's Mark Purchase Award
Barnard's painting "Moonstone" was juried into the Kentucky Watercolor Society 32nd Annual National Show--Aqueous USA 2009. The Exhibition was held at the Actor's Theatre of Louisville from September 22 until October 24. Ratindra Das was the Juror for the show. The water color was chosen for the Marker's Mark Purchase Award.
